Our Employment & Education mission is to increase self-sufficiency by developing strategies that support a better quality of life for residents in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. The Employment & Education Programs are dedicated to empowering individuals by providing essential resources, training, and support to help remove employment and educational barriers. Through career development opportunities, financial assistance, and personalized guidance, these programs support economic stability and long-term professional growth.

Participants may also have access to additional workforce initiatives and supportive services, subject to eligibility, program guidelines, and funding availability.

General Program Requirements

General Program Requirements Include:

  • Residency in Charleston, Berkeley, or Dorchester County
  • Completion of an intake appointment and eligibility assessment
  • Meeting federal income guidelines
  • Participation in approved education, training, or employment activities
  • Submission of required documentation, including proof of income and
    proof of residency
  • Funding availability at the time of review

Some programs may have additional requirements. Program-specific eligibility details will be discussed during the intake and assessment process.

Palmetto CAP’s General Emergency Assistance Program (or GEAP) provides financial assistance to households who have encountered an unexpected financial hardship including rental assistance to avoid eviction. Assistance is provided once every 24 months.

By providing temporary assistance with food, water and shelter, Palmetto CAP’s Outreach department provides vital services to address citizens’ most basic needs. Being able to meet basic needs is the foundation of financial stability.
